To Install InHarmony

  1. Install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable (English) from the Microsoft Windows Update web site. Note that for NT systems (e.g. NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP), this will require you to be logged in as an administrator.
  2. Reboot and make sure your system is functioning properly.
  3. Visit the Microsoft Update in order to download any patches available for the .NET Framework 1.1
  4. Reboot and make sure your system is functioning properly.
  5. Download the InHarmony Setup ZIP file.
  6. Create an empty directory
  7. Un-zip all of the files contained in this ZIP file into the empty directory.
  8. Read the InHarmonyLicense.txt text file. If you do not agree to its terms, immediately delete the un-zipped files, and the original ZIP file, and do not use this software.
  9. Run Setup.exe. On WinNT, Win2K, and WinXP this may require administrative privileges.
  10. When installation is complete, run InHarmony via the InHarmony icon in the Start menu's Programs menu
  11. Configure the serial communications to be compatible with your setup.

Reporting Bugs

There are plenty of bugs and omissions in the software, but without substantial financial support, there are no more resources available to make changes to InHarmony. What you are looking at involves the dedication of over a man-year of my time.

If you have a feature you *really* would like to see, and are willing to pay me for my time and expertise, then I'll be happy to fit it into my schedule. :-)

Otherwise, feel free to report bugs and give suggestions. I personally frequent the Eventide Helps chat on Yahoo as composerchris.

Note, however, that the Eventide Helps usergroup is not a usergroup for InHarmony, and Italo (that group's moderator and employee of Eventide), of course, cannot provide technical assistance for InHarmony. Nor is InHarmony in any way endorsed, sanctioned, or supported by Eventide.

It is solely supported by me on a volunteer basis.

Known Issues

1. The SIG file editor does not fully work. This is because it is not fully implemented. It is also S L O W at times, especially on systems without an advanced graphics card becasue it currently uses high-level image copy routines instead of low-level BitBlts. Thus, DO NOT USE the SIG editor!

Quick Overview

The first time you run InHarmony, you will need to properly configure the serial communications. Use the Tools -> Configure Communications menu in order to do this. If you change the settings, you may need to shut down and restart InHarmony before they properly take affect.

Once properly configured, double click the "Information" line in the Machine window. (You can open a new Machine window via the File -> Machine List menu.)

If InHarmony can talk to the Harmonizer, you should get a new Info window opening with contents similar to:

Once this is working properly, you will want to the use Tools -> Download Program Names menu item so that InHarmony can learn the names of all of the Banks & Programs on your Harmonizer. You only need to do this once, as InHarmony memorizes this list. If you add or delete programs, you will need to use the Banks window (see below) to refresh the list for the Banks that you modified.

The Remote Screen displays a live duplicate of the Harmonizer's LCD screen. You can click the soft buttons with the mouse. Or you can use your computer keyboard to press the soft buttons or any of the other buttons present on your Harmonizer. To see the list of valid keypresses, click on the "Keys" button within the Remote Display window.

Double click the "Current Program" line in the Machine window to display the current Bank/Program loaded into the DSPs present within your Harmonizer. This window will also display the name of the patch, but not before downloading the program names into InHarmony using the Tools menu (or via the Banks window, see below). If you see a title of "Title Not Downloaded", then you must download the program names from the Harmonizer!

Double click the "Parameters" line in the Machine window to display the parameter tree for Harmonizer. The first two items display the trees for DSP A and B, respectively (at least on an Orville). The other items in the list correspond to the SETUP, PROGRAM, LEVEL, and BYPASS menus accessible via the corresponding buttons on the Harmonizer. You will find the parameters window very useful in configuring the Harmonizer for a particular task.

Double click the "Banks" line in the Machine window to display the list of Banks and Programs available on the Harmonizer. Because this information takes a while to access, this information is cached on the computer. To download this information all in one shot (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), use the Tools -> Download Program Names menu (or right-click on the "Banks" line within the Banks window and choose the Refresh menu item). This will download the name of all banks and all programs on your machine. This information is cached in a file named C:\Temp\InHarmony\BankAndProgramListCache.txt. Note that a program whose name ends in "(U)" is a user program.

You can also use InHarmony to download all programs on the Harmonizer as SIG files! Simply use the Tools -> Download All SIG Files ment (or right-click on the "Banks" line within the Banks window, and choose the "Download SIG Files" menu item). This process will take a long time, but is worthwhile, especially before upgrading your machine to a new OS version. The SIG files are placed in a folder named C:\Temp\InHarmony. Each file is named BxPy.sig, where "x" is the bank number and "y" is the program number.
