Commissioning a New Work

An excellent way to promote classical music is to commission a new piece for a special occasion, such as a wedding anniversary, enagement, or a special birthday.

Rates depend upon:

• Requested instrumentation (e.g. string quartet, piano and voice, etc.)
• Requested length
• Whether organization of performance and/or recording is requested.

Generally, the following are included in a commission:

• The priveledge of providing a dedication for the work
• The right of first performance
• Option for right of first recording

For example, a ten-minute symphonic work might cost $2500, while a three-minute vocal piece with the text already provided might cost $300.
